Just returned from Vegas last week and it was my first time at NYNY. Started with express checking at the airport. Worked wonderful. I loved not having to wait in lines once I got there. My room was nice and clean. It faced the interstate but did have a partial strip view and a nice view of the mountains. It was $69 per night and I thought was a bargain. I ate at ChinChin and the America cafe and the food was good at both. Loved the dueling pianos and then the bar at the other end of the hotel always had nice entertainment too. NYNY is a good all around hotel and casino that you can enjoy and have fun with. I always like to stay at a hotel like NYNY where you feel comfortable and want to relax at instead of casino hopping. I have read mixed reviews but I'm not always sure what people expect for 60 or 70 dollars. It's a nice room and a great experience and isn't much more expensive than the Super 8. It's always funny to watch people who have never stayed in much more than a roach! motel complain about a nice hotel like they are used to staying at the Ritz. I stay in a lot of nice hotels in very expensive rooms and wouldn't hesitate to stay at the NYNY again. I loved it.
I'm a frequent business traveler into Las Vegas and have made it a point to try different hotels each trip. This was the first and last time I've tried New York New York. Everything that could ever go wrong did. The group booking people were terrible. They couldn't help me as the leader of a group of my business associates. I wanted to come in a day early, but they didn't have a room available. The check in people were rude and unhelpful. The accounting group screwed up the billing on my whole group (20). My room was about the size of a closet. The bathroom was the smallest of any on the strip. The front desk attendants were ruder than those at check in (if that's even possible). All in all, I hated everything about the stay here, and I looked VERY bad in fromt of my business associates. A good reason to make sure I post this at every review site I can find. I hope others have a better experience.
Great hotel location and rooms. Music is everywhere-Piano Bar, Irish Pub, etc. We usually stay at the Excalibur, which we also like. Attended Celine Dion show at Caesars-Superb show! Also saw Coasters, Platters, and Drifters at the Sahara. Great show-they sang and performed, on stage, all the old songs we enjoyed many years ago. (wife was led up on stage to sing and dance with them) Had lots of fun. We went to Texas Station, Green Valley Ranch, and the Fiesta Casinos since this was our 14th time in Vegas, we wanted to see some of the casinos off the strip. We highly recommend them especially their buffets, which are half-price when joining their slot clubs.
We were in a jr. suite which was okay, jacuzzi was nice. TV small, no coffee maker, no fridge. Room faced parking garage. Roller coaster noise was okay. Front Desk employees were extremely abrupt and unfriendly. Check in was an hour wait as their computers were down. Sleep was disrupted by party goers in the hallway and wrong phone call. It was hard to breath in the room without the A/C going, but may be the higher altitude. Casino was nice. Smokey. No where to sit down if you had to wait for something such as hour long check in. I was disappointed the NY Deli didn't even have salami.......they were out. The only good thing about NY NY was Rita Rudner, playing there. She is a must see!
Ok, I am a frequent visitor to Vegas, and there are a few things that should be pointed out for anyone visiting Las Vegas. 1) YOU WILL ALWAYS NEED PHOTO ID TO CHECK IN! In this age of terrorist threats, this is the norm - shouldn't you always have your photo ID on you anyhow? That was an unfair crucifying of this hotel. Your check in time would have been cut down by about 2/3rd's 2) NEVER expect all of your rooms to be together if you are travelling in a large group - unless you are Michael Jackson and buy out entire floors... 3) Vegas is a tourist trap, and will nickel and dime you most everywhere - you CAN find some deals, but don't cry about the price of food and such when you are in a themed hotel - you are on vacation, you are a captive audience, and if you want cheap, there is always Subway and Denny's at casino royale...enjoy yourself! With that said...I have stayed at NYNY in the past and will be doing so again in November...is this my favorite hotel? No. is this the best deal on the strip? No, but you can get fair prices thru mailings. Is this one of the coolest and most interesting casinos around? YES!!!! Is it in a great location? YES!!!! Are the rooms you get at the lowest rates small? YES!!! but if you are looking to spend all your time in the room, go to the Venetian or get a suite or something. I can understand if you are looking for cleanliness - a dirty room IS unacceptable - but the shape of this hotel alone (Multiple towers of varying sizes) couldn't accomodate all the rooms being as big as those in Bally's, Venetian, or even the Orleans (My Fav hotel in Vegas for most $-for-$ value). NYNY is a lot of fun if you are looking for something out of the ordinary as far as hotels go. Its decorated well, has a great casino, a good (not great) pool (for great pools, go to Mandalay Bay or the Hard Rock hotel), Great restaurants, and always something to do! plus its a short walk to all the other great hotels... Can these rooms be overpriced? At times, I guess so, but you ARE paying for location, location, location... Anyhow, thats all for now... happy travelling. |
