My girlfriend and I went to Las Vegas for 4th of July weekend and thought that we would save some money by staying at San Remo......what a mistake. No hair dryer, no iron, no "do not disturb" sign. The room was old, the staff unhelpful, and in addition to not having any of the basics listed above, there was a wait to get these items. We waited over one hour for a hair dryer to become available for our use!....and then, the hair dryer they gave us was worse than the one I had given away at my garage sale. The second night we were there, the room's air conditioning unit quits working and we have to have the unit repaired in the middle of the night by some semi-sober repair person. The only good thing about this is that the repair person knew what they were doing, obviously from lots of experience repairing this hole of a hotel. It is fun to laugh about now, but the stay at the San Remo is something I don't recommend to anyone who has to pay to stay there. Motel 6 or any of the other motels close by is a much better option.
My husband and I stayed in the San Remo last year for the CES because it was convenient to the show. Needless to say, the hotel was not very impressive. The employees were very unfriendly, almost to the point pf being rude, especially in the restaurants. The casino was kept so hot, you couldn't gamble in comfort and you can forget about getting any drinks. I was terribly disappointed. With all of the competition in Vegas, one would think that the San Remo would try a little harder. I will not recommend this hotel to any CES visitors.
If you are looking for a great location near the strip in Vegas, but without the high price tag, the San Remo is the place to stay. From our room, we overlooked the MGM, Tropicana, NYNY and Excaliber. The room was only okay, but we only slept there. Pool was nice, clean and quiet, but I had more fun at the Tropicana pool next door (and they didn't check to see if I was a guest!) No hairdryer or iron, but the front desk sent a hairdryer to the room. We had breakfast buffet, which was not good, but found great food at the resorts nearby. In addition, the casino/lounge was friendly and not crowded. Save your $$$ for the blackjack table and stay at the San Remo.
The reason you go to Vegas, is to live a little larger than your normal life. The San Remo basically ruined our trip. Yes it's close to things, thank God! The place just isn't kept up, holes in carpets, Mildew, No in room safes, Hair Dryer etc. The air conditioner in our room was so noisy we had to turn it off to sleep, the small swimming pool was not heated as advertised on their web site. The casino and staff was friendly but didn't seem busy, there was no pool service for drinks etc. The bath rooms at the pool smelled like urine! What we saved staying here we spent in cabs getting out and back everday. We actually paid to spend the day at the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel. Really! Don't stay hear it will ruin your trip.
It ain't the MGM but then we didn't expect it to be. What it is, is a comfortable place to stay that is very near the hot end of the strip but without all of the hype and expense. Steak & Eggs for $4.95. $2 Blackjack table. You will not feel out of place. Our room had a great view of New York. Caution, no hair dryers or irons (iron is available but you must ask) but great water pressure and loads of hot water. We would go back. |
