Property amenities

Within the resort are a shopping promenade, a 24-hour fitness center, and a full-service business center.

What to expect: Las Vegas grew up around the Stardust's 62 tropical and desert acres on the north end of what became known as The Strip. Here, traditional Las Vegas still exists: a larger-than-life entertainer (Wayne Newton), a mahogany-paneled steakhouse, a softly-lit lounge offering musical acts, an elegant casino, and sundecks and pools to restore and refresh after all-night entertainment.

Amenity highlights: The tropical-garden pool complex includes two pools-one free-form and the other rectangular for lap swimming. Between them rises a large sandstone structure in a coconut-palm grove. Each side of the massive rock shelters a 10-person spa that's always open for social soaking.

Insider tip: In addition to assisting commercial travelers with services and cellular phone rentals, the resort's business center rents digital cameras to vacationers.

"Mr. Las Vegas" himself, Wayne Newton, performs in his own theater at the Stardust 40 weeks a year. The Starlight Lounge features live musical entertainment through the night.

Big-band dance concerts are held throughout the year in the Stardust Ballroom, featuring the music of Ray Anthony, Les Brown, Glenn Miller, Russ Morgan, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Benny Goodman, and Woody Herman.

Stardust Pavilion plays host to concerts, boxing matches, and, in December, the National Finals Rodeo.

The casino supplies 85,000 square feet of poker, slots, video poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, pai gow poker, Caribbean poker, keno, baccarat, and mini-baccarat. The casino includes Carousel One, a secluded high-limit lounge. Stardust Race and Sports Book establishes an early line that's followed across the country.
