Las Vegas - Tropicana Hotel and Casino: "Wonderful"
Reviewer: Sandra Jones, Florida

My mom and I went to the Tropicana and it was our first trip to Vegas. Picking a hotel out of the computer means you take your chances, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, comfortable and what a view of the strip. The staff was courteous, food was good, and the casino and shows were great. We were so impressed that we just booked a return trip for 2004 and my sister is going with us. Viva Tropicana !!!

Las Vegas - Tropicana Hotel and Casino: "Bigger is not always better"

The Tropicana is the last "grand old lady" left on the strip. It does show her age, but there are beautifully decorated areas that boast her tradition and elegance. The staff is extremely cordial and helpful. The rooms are very nice and roomy. Larger than most ROH rooms on the strip. There is a small refrig and safe in the closet. The bed was quite comfortable. One of the nice things about staying at the Trop is the proximity of everything in relation to your room. We were fortunate to stay in the Paradise Towers which elevators bank right off the main casino floor. I had forgotten how convenient it is to stay in a smaller hotel/casino and not have to walk a mile to get from one end to the other. A short ride in the elevator and we were within several minutes walking distance to the pool, restaurants, gift shop, etc. We ate in several of the restaurants and enjoyed each meal.

If you visit during the warm months you can enjoy the beautiful pool with waterfalls and rock formations. We rented a cabana for the day and found it to be one of the best deals around. For a mere $50.00 (think how fast that goes on the casino floor) you have the cabana from 9am to 5pm. equipped with a TV, Refrig (which they stock w/ water and juice) a large round table w/ 4 captain chairs to sit and read, eat, drink or watch tv. There is a ceiling fan above you to keep you cool. Outside your cabana there are four very comfortable lounge chairs with large cushions for you to lay out in the sun. There is an attendant (if needed) to help you and waitress service for the bar. You can even get room service delivered to have lunch. We felt like royalty and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The Trop is also located on a convenient corner right near the MGM, NYNY, Excalibar, Mandalay Bay and Luxor and using the escalators, people walkways or trams, you can get to all of them without ever hitting the street. During the day there is a free show of artists performing stunts in the air, singing and dancing. It is in the main casino every day. There is also a free bird show near the buffet. The birds are very smart and the show is cute. There were eight of us on this trip and we thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Trop. Although it is so much smaller than the major players on the strip, its size adds to its charm and personality. Would definitely stay again. Only negative thing I could say is not enough parking spaces available for guests when hotel is sold out.

Las Vegas - Tropicana Hotel and Casino: "Nightmare!"

This hotel ruined Las Vegas for us. Awful service - rude, pushed us into a smoking room saying it was the only room left in the whole place - even though we had a reservation. The room itself was disgusting, to the point we talked about walking out, after having checked in. Overall the whole place was tatty in the extreme - I would not recommend this place to anyone at any price.

Las Vegas - Tropicana Hotel and Casino: "a dump"

When you go to vegas with a bunch of your guy buddies, it is to be expected that you will stay in a cheap hotel to save $$$ for gambling later. Well, cheap it was, but I was scared for my life sleeping in these rooms. The hotel resembled an old, run-down beach motel, with cheap furnishings and tacky tropical colored curtains. The place was a maze to navigate...which, I stress, is tough to do after sitting at the blackjack table for several hours, drowning your sorrows away with their free cocktails (at least I got something fromn this trip). This is a very uncomfortable hotel to stay in, from the wall-unit AC that doesn't work, to the paper-thin walls that you can oh-so-joyously hear your neighbors through. I wish I had invested in a nicer hotel during our stay, just for peace of mind that I wouldn't catch some wierd virus from sleeping in the filthy hotel beds. Oh well, another Vegas story in the books....
