Las Vegas Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino

This is the only downtown hotel still elegant enough to draw four-star ratings and compete with the Strip on most any level of gaming or dining. Don't worry, though, there's still plenty of downtown gaudiness, including gold-plated elevators, pay phones, and slot machines - and the world's largest gold nugget. The games, however, cater to its wealthier and older gamblers. You can find a couple of $5 blackjack tables, but $10 and $25 minimums dominate. But all is not lost for those with little to lose. The slot club now recognizes nickel and quarter players, so low rollers can now partake in the good comps here. The relaxed politeness of the entire staff adds to the coziness, although even the President doesn't have this many security guards patrolling his home. One anomaly in the high-roller casino is the race and sports book, which is little more than a tiny lounge next to the music lounge.
